Volunteer Positions

Service Team Member

We are looking for as many volunteers as possible who are willing to make a real difference to the centre. Service team members help out on site in a variety of ways including:

  • Maintenance
  • Cleaning
  • Serving in the shop
  • Assisting on courses and events

The time commitment can be as little or as much as you feel you can give. You decide what you can offer, and what skills you can contribute. We will try to link skills to tasks wherever possible.

This role is open to volunteers of any age. However, where opportunities arise to stay on site overnight, under 10s must be accompanied by a parent, and under 14s must be accompanied by a leader or parent.

If you would like to join the service team, please send your details, including any particular skills to the centre manager at info@scoutcentre.org.uk or call 01452 812309.

Service Team Leader

We are currently looking to recruit four service team leaders who will take on the responsibility of managing service weekends at Cranham. These team leaders will manage a team of other volunteers in the normal operation of the centre, and carry out longer term projects while on site. They will join a larger service team all of whom will be able to attend as many service weekends as they are willing and able.

It is hoped that a strong and knowledgeable team will be developed, but that responsibility will be shared by the team leaders, rather than expecting one or two people to have sole responsibility and commitment.

The time commitment for this role is more regular. Service team weekends currently take place one weekend per month and Service Team Leaders will be on a rota depending on how many of them there are. Service team leaders will need to be able to take on the responsibility for managing the team during each weekend.

If you would like to become a Service Team Leader, please send your details, including any particular skills to the centre manager at info@scoutcentre.org.uk or call 01452 812309. A simple role description for this position is available here: Service Team Leader RD

Volunteer Activity Instructor

We are always looking to recruit new instructors to our small team. Activity instructors are responsible for running sessions with the groups we have on site. They also maintain equipment and support other volunteers in the maintenance of the activity areas. Instructors must hold appropriate National Governing Body qualifications as outlined below:

Archery – Archery GB Leader Award or higher, or equivalent

Air Rifles – National Small-bore Rifle Association Youth Proficiency Scheme Tutor Diploma or higher, or equivalent

Tree Climbing – European Ropes Course Association Site Specific Instructor or higher, or equivalent

If you would like to become a Volunteer Activity Instructor, please send your details, including any particular skills to the centre manager at info@scoutcentre.org.uk or call 01452 812309.

Management Committee Member

Following the recent stepping down of some existing members of the committee, we are now looking for three additional individuals to join the team.

We are particularly looking for people who are skilled or have an interest in taking the minutes, sourcing funding for the centre or working on the implementation of the business plan.

The committee currently meets five or six times a year during the evening at Cranham. Some work outside these meetings may be required (for example typing up minutes or writing funding applications).

An understanding of Scouting is welcomed but not essential.

If you are interested in joining the committee please contact the Centre Manager at manager@scoutcentre.org.uk or call 01452 812309 for an informal chat.

Quartermaster

A large amount of equipment is owned by Gloucestershire County Scout Council. Most of this equipment is stored at Cranham Scout Centre. A quartermaster is required to manage the storage, maintenance and use of equipment.

The time commitment for this role is more ad hoc. Agreement needs to be made with the centre manager as to when you feel you will need to access the equipment. Equipment bookings are managed via the centre and county administrators.

If you would like to become a Service Team Leader, please send your details, including any particular skills to the centre manager at info@scoutcentre.org.uk or call 01452 812309. A simple role description for this position is available here: Quartermaster RD
